No Strings Attached

December 7th, 2010

You might not think it’s pretty.
Green and frayed.
Yarn, tied with knots.
Threads hanging off the end.

You may notice it.
There
around my wrist.
Yet I doubt you’d comment.

But on this day,
And those to follow
it’s the most beautiful thing
I own.

He gave it to me yesterday
with 10 yr old joy
at simple things
turned into more.

A “friendship” bracelet.
Tell me a mother who wouldn’t melt
and just about cry
as she ties it ‘round her wrist. Her heart.

I thank him, of course.
Yet he’ll never know
how my gratitude will last
far beyond this moment.

He gives me his love, freely.
As if it’s the easiest thing in the world.
As easy as tying knots
in a piece of string.
