I’m wide awake

Not losing any sleep

I picked up every piece

And landed on my feet I’m wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself

Katy Perry, I Wide Awake

The experience of my soul awakening began during the latter part of 2013. I had to swim through the waves of life that brought me to where I’m today. There were times that I was coasting with my head above water, however I found peace and learned to appreciate the ride along the way. What really is awakening? To me this means living consciously, being open, living my truth, walking my walk and speaking from the heart always! Living an authentic life with a fierce determination to serve humanity, and live by being self-fullness. The term self-fullness may sound arrogant or self-righteous to others but there is simplicity to this all: love who you are and personal freedom! Freedom to be you, living on your terms which lets the inner light shine.

When I think of being awakened, the life cycle of a butterfly comes to mind. A tiny caterpillar is born, learns to survive on its own through lessons and experiences. The caterpillar faces being hunted, unpredictable weather conditions and obstacles that shape its character. This extraordinary caterpillar survives on instincts, and nourishes itself in order to become transformed. The caterpillar practices patience, hope, reflection, and uses its own energy to flourish. In hindsight this is exactly what I have felt throughout this year! There were challenges I had to face in order to fully live my potential but I was able to persevere with being open. Openness is so important especially when we face difficulties. It’s saying to the world although I may have had some bumps in the road, I’m ready for change.  The chrysalis phase of the caterpillar I view as self-love. Spinning inside cocoon and transforming into a beautiful butterfly, the metamorphosis. We all are essentially caterpillars in life, evolving into butterflies awakening into the beauty of life.

Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time — Deborah Chaskin

Spiritually speaking the butterfly transcends into a creature of grace and peace. The awakening process takes time but happens when each soul is ready for the next phase in life. The metamorphosis from caterpillar to a butterfly is a process of evolving in the person we are meant to be.Every human being faces their ego, vulnerability or darkness. These aspects of our personality are there to teach us lessons about ourselves, to set us free. What we must realize that the darkness is there to create the pathway to the light. Surrendering and letting go is what we need to do in order to move forward. Being awake is living from the inner source, sharing insight loving and accepting who we truly are. We must remember to trust the process, as every human being is here to share their special story. We are all each a gift to humanity.

Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to let compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment  ~ John O’Donohue
